The tragic case of Arben Anamali, the captain of a tourist boat from Shkodra, has drawn the attention of Israeli media, following his death during a rescue operation involving two Israeli tourists who had fallen into the water due to strong currents in Lake Shkodra.
Israeli media have described it as a heroic act by the Albanian captain, providing detailed coverage from the beginning of the incident to the recovery of Anamali’s body.
Their reports state:
“Anamali’s remains were found on Thursday morning after an intensive search that lasted nearly 48 hours. Anamali, who was leading a group of tourists including seven Israeli citizens, lost his life while rescuing two of them who were at risk of drowning.
The tragic event occurred earlier in the week, when Anamali, despite warnings about strong currents, led the tourists on an excursion on Lake Shkodra. Two of the Israeli tourists jumped into the water and found themselves in danger of drowning. Despite initial rescue efforts, including throwing life vests, they could not be brought to safety.
In a heroic act, Anamali jumped into the water himself to rescue the tourists, bringing them closer to the boat and helping them return on board. After saving the two tourists, Anamali lost contact and is believed to have suffered cardiac arrest due to exhaustion and extreme physical effort.
After two days of meticulous search efforts, his body was found and transported to the Shkodra Regional Hospital for further examination. Arben Anamali leaves behind two children and a community shaken by the loss of this heroic man who gave his life to save others,” the Israeli media report.
