Car insurance prices rose by 7% in January, reaching an average of 19,500 lekë for an insurance policy.

This marks an increase compared to the 18,000 lekë price from a year ago.

According to the Financial Supervisory Authority (AMF), this rise is due to the implementation of a new system for determining compulsory vehicle insurance premiums. The new regulation may lead to further price adjustments based on factors such as the driver’s age, vehicle type, and accident history.

Major changes are expected in 2026 when these factors will have a greater impact on insurance rates. Meanwhile, insurance companies have the right to set their own prices but are required to inform AMF at least 30 days before applying new tariffs.
