The Democratic Party and the opposition are continuing their battle of contestations at the Commission of Appeals and Sanctions, regarding the electoral process of April 25th.

However, despite their accusations, CAS has admitted that in several electoral districts, DP’s claims for alleged irregularities by SP in these elections don’t stand.

Analyst Andi Bushati said during ‘Shock’ on Euronews Albania that he was convinced that the Democratic Party doesn’t have sufficient proof that would prove the manipulation of this electoral process.

“CAS’s stand, whose majority is made up of socialist members, is that they function like a court and the burden of proofs lies with the side that is making the appeals. In other words, they are saying: You guys in the DP, don’t have enough proof so why are you complaining to us about these elections? I am convinced in the thesis that DP doesn’t possess the proof, because DP entered these elections, like cattle in a slaughterhouse. Everyone passes the ball amongst each other, but the ball of truth isn’t held by anybody,” claimed Bushati.

Bushati also emphasized that Albanian citizens have the legitimate right to ask for transparency out of this process, because this is a condition of democracy.

“The bad thing about those in power here, is that they want to keep secrets hidden, behind closed doors. I want transparency regarding what happened during my [country’s] elections. Everything needs to be done transparently. If there’s no crime, that’s even better, we are all honoured. CAS has the obligation to ask for information from government institutions regarding these elections. The public has the right to know if DP is lying or SP stole these elections,” said Bushati.

Analyst Baton Haxhiu also agreed that the opposition doesn’t possess enough concrete proof, which would prove what they are calling an “electoral massacre”.

Haxhiu also stated that in every country in the world, problems with the electoral process get reported.

“If DP has concrete proof, then they should send them to the Prosecution Office. These are technical complaints that happen here…and in Australia. In every country in the world there are discrepancies with the electoral process,” said Haxhiu.
