The Commission for Appeals and Sanctions overturned the request of the Democratic Party and the Socialist Movement for Integration to declare the result of the polls in Vlora as invalid.

The opposition now has 5 days to appeal the decision at the Electoral College.

Albania’s main opposition parties called on CAS to designate election results in Vlora as invalid as well as be subjected a revoting on claims that the government exploited the public administration and state sources in exchange for their votes.

Earlier on, CAS had dismissed DP’s request to retrieve additional information from other institutions to allegedly prove their electoral fraud claims.

The commission approved SMI’s request to learn more about faulty electronic identification devices on election day in Vlora.

On Thursday, CAS dismissed a similar request for the county of Berat, refusing to declare invalid election results as well as revoting.

However, SMI’s recounting request was accepted, which will see the reopening of 114 out of 277 ballot boxes that Berat has.
