Albania is experiencing a decrease in the number of babies born every year. The reasons are different, and one of them is infertility, where couples cannot get pregnant.

The World Health Organization has announced that 1 in 6 people are affected by infertility during their lifetime. Both men and women are equally at risk of infertility, but recently an increase in the problem has been observed in boys.

“If I make the ratio of infertility between women and men, it is women who occupy the largest percentage, but today in the whole world, not only in Albania, the percentage of boys or men who are infertile has increased a little. Young people also enter. Age 27, I also have women in my work who were infertile even at such a young age,” said Lindita Myzeri, gynecologist.

The causes that lead to infertility are many, but they have to do with lifestyle.

“It has a lot to do with lifestyle. I would add to the way of lifestyle, not only the fact that how we eat that food is the basis, not only economic issues, but also the way of life and social life and the change of partners, the use of alcohol, drugs.  So all these are factors that have greatly influenced the increase in infertility in men as well,” added Myzyri.

According to experts, a person can suffer from infertility or sterility, just like other diseases. Reports show that 1 in 20 men have low sperm count, while 1 in 100 are sterile, making it impossible to conceive a child. Research shows that 48 million couples and 186 million people live with infertility worldwide.
