The Central Election Committee asked all institutions in Albania to delete every electoral post in their official social media accounts.
Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi reiterated that publishing and promoting such posts, is a misuse of public resources.
“Order from the CEC. Immediately delete any electoral posts or reposts from official Facebook pages of institutions, or any other electronic means. Using these pages to publish or repost electoral activities, is a misuse of public resources. It is also a misuse to publish posts that contain hashtags or slogans of electoral nature, or to call for support in the elections,” Celibashi wrote on his own Facebook page.
A few days ago, the CEC ordered all parties to immediately take down electoral banners that did not contain the note “Produced under the legal responsibility of the political subject”.
Albanians will head to polls on May 14th to choose the new mayors. The campaign so far has been quiet and has had no incidents. However, electoral banners with “offensive messages” caused a stir in the public opinion, forcing the CEC to intervene.
