Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi declares that the institution he leads does not have the mechanisms to verify the illegal financing of political parties. For this, while reporting to the special disinformation commission, he proposed changing the electoral code.

The Central Election Commission requests more powers to verify illegal financing of political parties or candidates in election campaigns. Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi reported this Wednesday to the special commission for disinformation where he asked the assembly for changes in the electoral code.

“It is difficult, if not impossible for the CEC. I believe it would be naive for anyone to obtain at least information through the mechanisms of the Central Election Commission and then evaluate and monitor financing that comes from illegal activities. It is fundamental and the financing of third parties will have to change, the Assembly of Albania and the political parties should first address this concern through the relevant amendments to the Electoral Code”, said Ilirjan Celibashi.

Faced with this request, the chairman of the commission, Erion Braçe, is of the same opinion.

“You can too. Mr. Celibashi spoke today about third parties who finance political parties. Thirdly, we have phenomena that we have encountered within the territory of the Republic of Albania”.

The Chairman of the Electronic and Postal Communications Authority, Tomi Frashëri, also reported to the commission, who stated that 155 Russian domains and 8 others belonging to data hacking groups have been closed.
