Memli Krasniqi, the chairman of the largest opposition entity, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, said that through a letter sent to the ruling and opposition party leaders, he requested that the new parliamentary elections be held as soon as possible.
Krasniqi said that he has sent a letter to the head of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, to the head of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, and to the head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradianj, to coordinate the steps to dissolve the Assembly of Kosovo so that the country can hold early parliamentary elections.
“The Democratic Party of Kosovo has proposed the dates of June 30 or July 7 for holding early elections and due to legal and constitutional deadlines, to reach one of these dates, the procedural motion for the dissolution of the Assembly of Kosovo would have to be voted on by May 29 at the latest. Therefore, even today, I invite all parliamentary parties to coordinate and cooperate for the benefit of our citizens”, wrote Krasniqi on Facebook.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has recently held meetings with representatives of parliamentary political parties to discuss the possibility of holding new elections. According to him, it would be good if the elections were held in the spring or autumn of this year.
However, the parties have not yet found an agreement on the form of how to go to the elections. The PDK wants to go to the elections through the distribution of the Assembly, which in advance requires the collection of 40 signatures for the motion, which must then be voted on by 80 legislator.
