The OSCE Presence in Albania reacted this Thursday to the amendments adopted to the Audiovisual Media Law. In its statement, the OSCE emphasized that transparency of media ownership is an important step.
The OSCE further underlined that it encourages ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and supports these initiatives.
“The OSCE Presence in Albania welcomes the adoption of the amendments to the Audiovisual Media Law, in particular the introduction of Article 33/1 on media ownership transparency.
These amendments represent an important step toward improving transparency of media ownership and strengthening accountability in the audiovisual sector.
We note with satisfaction that these changes reflect key recommendations of the OSCE Presence, developed through continuous and excellent cooperation with the Audiovisual Media Authority.
The creation of a national database on media ownership, increased transparency requirements, and alignment with the law on beneficial owners bring Albanian legislation closer to European standards.
The Presence encourages continued efforts to ensure transparency and effective implementation and remains ready to support these initiatives,” the statement said.
