German Ambassador Karl Bergner has reacted to the tense situation in the Albanian Parliament in recent weeks.

Through a statement, Bergner stated that the Parliament should be a forum where political proposals can be openly discussed.

He called on the majority and the opposition to cooperate, to return this institution to its role of serving the citizens.

Statement by Ambassador Karl Bergner:

I am following with concern the latest developments in the Parliament of Albania.

The citizens of Albania rightfully expect their parliament to be a forum where its members can present and openly discuss various political proposals. This exchange should take place in peace and be guided by the rules, which the parliament itself has determined.

Therefore, I call on the members of the majority and the opposition in the Assembly to cooperate, in order to guarantee that the parliament fulfills its essential constitutional role: control of the executive and legislation in the interest of the citizens represented through deputies.
