Albania’s Chief Negotiation for our integration into the EU, Zef Mazi, was received in Prague earlier today by the Foreign Minister, Jakup Kulhánek as well as the Deputy MFA, Ales Chmelar.
Mazi informed the Czech minister regarding the complete fulfillment of conditions set out by the European Council in March 2020, adding that the results of the work carried out in Albania are scalable and tangible.
According to the Albanian chief negotiator, the base criteria of evaluation used by the EU should be focused on individual merits and that “the nationalistic problems between other countries shouldn’t hold Albania’s European road hostage”.
“The non-determination of a date for the first Intergovernmental Conference by the European Council adds to the fatigue, it adds to the distrust and its lowers EU’s credibility in the eyes of the people of our nation. Albania is expecting that the EU make the right decisions because Albania has completed all its homework and is continuing on its undertaken reforms with consistency,” stated Mazi.
The Czech foreign minister, Kulhánek commended all the work that has been done by Albania up until now, in the framework of its European integration, while adding that according to him, our country should be holding the first IGC as soon as possible.
In fact, he also declared that for the Czech Republic, the opening of technical negotiations for Albania’s accession remains a priority. According to him, the EU should be making a decision regarding Albania’s first IGC, promptly.
During his visit to the Czech Republic, the chief negotiator conducted meetings with the Czech parliamentary commission regarding European matters. He was received by the Chair of the Commission, Ondřej Benešík, the two Deputy Chairs and prominent members of the Commission.
