The Electoral College has decided to overturn the electoral fraud claims made by the Democratic Party for the counties of Fier and Elbasan, asking for a reelection. With these two final verdicts, today marked the end of the appeals process for the April 25th elections at the Electoral College and now it remains to be seen whether or not the opposition will follow up on the lawsuits contesting the results of April 25th’s general elections and what its next steps are going to be.
Electoral massacre, massive vote-buying, the intimidation of the public administration, – these were only some of the phrases and terms used by DP and SMI, when referring to the April 25th elections. On the basis of these pretenses, these opposition parties started and pursued this legal battle, aiming to overturn the verdict reached by CEC (Central Electoral Commission) and repeat the elections.
Meanwhile, the opposition’s reaction remained the same, emphasizing that neither CAS (Commission of Appeals and Sanctions) nor the College have acted justly, when reaching their verdicts regarding the April 25th elections.
DP’s legal representative, Marash Logu stated that from the moment their appeals were submitted to CAS until the decision made by the Electoral College, 6 weeks had gone by. However, he stressed out the fact that DP’s and SP’s legal battle wouldn’t end here.
“DP and SMI has already warned taking the lawsuits regarding the irregularities of these elections to the Constitutional Court and even Strasbourg,” stated Marash Logu.
