During a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, the Secretary-General of the Constitutional Court requested an additional 2 million lek in funding to improve the court’s fire protection system — a request that, as he noted, is being made for the third consecutive year.
He emphasized that the court building is worn down and that the existing fire safety system requires urgent intervention. Speaking with a hint of irony, he added:
“If we catch fire, you’ll burn too,”
highlighting the physical proximity of the institutions and the potential risk involved.
The Secretary-General called for greater cooperation from the Ministry of Finance, arguing that budget cuts undermine the dignity of the country’s highest constitutional institution.
He stressed that the request for additional funds is not limited to fire protection but also includes cybersecurity improvements and increased workload, due to the creation of a new directorate with five staff members.
“We are talking about the investment line and the situation created, as well as cybersecurity, where we have requested additional funds related to the installed server.
The request for 2 million lek for fire protection is minimal, but vital,” he stated.
This marks the third time the Constitutional Court has repeated the same request, describing the issue as an infrastructure emergency.
