The Constitutional Court has set June 23 as the date when it will convene to review whether the local elections held in June 2019 were legitimate.
At the time, the Democratic Party and the Socialist Movement for Integration boycotted the polls by not entering the race in any of the 61 municipalities.
After the electoral process, the opposition, more specifically Shkodra mayor Voltana Ademi, decided to take the dispute to the Constitutional Court on behalf of all municipalities, demanding to invalidate the result and repeat the elections entirely.
The session will take place behind closed doors, without the presence of the public, due to COVID-19 measures.
Albania’s top court will review the lawsuit and come to a conclusion within the prescribed legal deadline on whether it will recognize or not the local elections.
