The construction sector was the main factor of economic growth in 2022, but in this period there was a decrease in employment in this sector.

According to INSTAT data, the construction sector grew by 20.6% last year, but its contribution to total employment was 7.6%, from 8.1% in 2022.

Last year, the country’s economy grew by 4.8%, where the construction sector alone contributed 20% to the total economic growth.

But why was it expected that there would be more jobs since construction was the fastest growing sector in the economy, the opposite happened as this sector did not affect employment.

A similar situation as in the construction sector has been noticed in the tourism sector, as the number of foreign visitors to Albania has increased in recent years.

The lack of growth in employment figures is mainly related to informality and employment without contracts.
