Applications for the construction of photovoltaic plants that are not part of the government’s support scheme continue to be high at the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.

Recently, another project has been submitted, seeking preliminary approval for projects that are not concession objects. It is a 10 MW installed capacity plant, and the area where it will be implemented is part of the Bulqiza municipality.

“Company GERTI LLC has expressed interest and has submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy an application for the construction of a photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 10 MW, for the production of electricity from renewable sources, which is not a concession object and does not benefit from supportive measures, located in Vlashaj, Administrative Unit of Shupenza, Bulqiza Municipality,” stated the public application made by the Ministry.

A few days ago, two other projects requested preliminary approval and went through the first phase of comments from interested parties. These projects were for a 10 MW installed capacity plant in Elbasan and a 2 MW plant in Dibër.

Interest in photovoltaic plants remains high, although the peak demand was reached in 2022 and is now stable according to market installers.

This is related to the energy crisis, where prices experienced a rapid and unprecedented increase, leading the government to accelerate diversification plans.

During a recent visit to a photovoltaic plant under construction, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy stated that from 2021 until now, there have been applications for over 1.7 gigawatts, and over 270 megawatts have been approved so far, while other applications are still being reviewed.
