The Prosecution Office suspects that the case of corruption in the hospital of Shefqet Ndroqi, reported a few weeks ago in the media was not an isolated incident and it has consequently issued another 4 warrants.

Euronews Albania has learned from trusted sources that authorities arrested three nurses and one janitor, who are accused of having been connected to Tire Alldervishaj, who was charged with the extortion of 8 million Lek from a COVID-19 patient’s family in December.

 On Monday night, the Prosecution Office announced that the Judicial Police had stopped the following citizens:

  • M.B – 52 years-old, nurse;
  • Sh.K- 61 years-old, nurse;
  • S. Ç – 28 years-old, nurse;
  • R.H – 57 years-old, janitor;

Euronews Albania journalist, Eni Ferhati said that authorities are investigating a possible “fraud scheme” and in time we will find out whether or not the four employees of “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospital will collaborate with prosecutors.

The criminal case in question came as a result of a young woman’s police report in December, who accused janitor Alldervishaj, who had previously introduced herself as a nurse, of extorting various sums of money from her.

Following the media denouncement of this case on January 13th, the police arrested the janitor and started a complex investigation.

PM Edi Rama has on at least two occasions saluted this journalistic inquiry while asking the media to help authorities in their war against corruption. Today, the PM also asked the media to help raise citizen’s trust in the public health system.
