Over the past 24 hours, 984 citizens were diagnosed with COVID-19.
The majority of the cases were detected in the capital (294), followed by Shkodra (93) and Durrsi (79).
From the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 2,512 confirmed deaths from COVID-19, with medical authorities saying that a majority were suffering from underlying conditions.
Also, 640 citizens recovered in the last day, taking the overall number of people who have defeated the virus to 135,961.
Based on data provided by the health ministry, there are an estimated 11,268 active cases across the country.
Earlier during the day, health minister Ogerta Manastirliu announced on Facebook plans to reopen a third COVID hospital in the capital in order to “counter an influx in hospitals”.
106 patients are receiving medical care, of which 18 in a more serious state.
The Ministry of Health has continuously appealed to all the adult population to get jabbed as soon as possible in order to curb the spread of the virus and avoid overburdening the healthcare system.
