Prime Minister Edi Rama commented publicly for the first time on Tuesday, during a meeting with the business community, on the widely discussed Fiscal Peace package.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the goal of the package is to create a clearer and more predictable environment for businesses, giving those that operate regularly the opportunity to formalize their income without being penalized for previous periods.

“The difference between Fiscal Peace and Fiscal Amnesty is very simple and clear. This is about making peace with all those who are not currently in conflict with the law. They are not involved in open criminal proceedings, nor in ongoing court cases that affect the legitimacy of their income. For all the rest, the rules remain as already written in the law. If a business wishes to revisit previously declared financial statements and submits self-corrected statements, it will pay only 5 percent of the newly declared profit. In this way, the portion of income that was not previously reflected in the statements is formalized,” Rama said.
