Albanian ports are not on the safe agendas for the movement of tourists by cruise ships yet however, representatives of a Spanish company have arrived in the country to cooperate with the ports authorities in order to attract more large tourist ships on the Albanian coastline.

“We hope that the project will be approved and bring more passenger ships in the city and invest in the local economy. We will work in all the areas as we aim to bring here several companies on different days during the season”, said Jordi Kaballe, representative of MED-CRUISES.

Holidaymakers are seeing this move positively and according to them it will increase the influx of visitors and promote the country globally.

“Firstly, increase the number of cruise ships coming to the port of Saranda and in Vlora. We’ve had several meetings with the prefect and port executives. The proposals are specific and I think that in e near future, port authorities will have to make a decision. We hope to have a deal because this is a serious company”, said Arben Çipa, leader of Saranda Tourism-Industry.

Up until now, cruise ships anchor in Albanian ports for only a few hours. The recent initiative will see to bring more big ships with foreign passengers that will stay in the country for more than one day.

Until this materializes, several standards will need to be fulfilled, such as adapting piers for the anchoring ships as well as strengthen security at the ports.
