Cryptocurrencies seem to be the future of doing business globally. The new president of the United States launched his own cryptocurrency, which within hours multiplied the wealth of 525 people around the world. Kosovo passed the cryptocurrency law in 2024, but it has not yet taken shape. How this enterprise works in Kosovo is explained in the following report.
The rise to power of Donald Trump, the many decisions made on his first day in office, as well as the launch of his own cryptocurrency, are seen by economists and experts in the field as the seal of a new world order.
“The rise of a cryptocurrency in 24 hours, as happened with the one launched by Mr. Trump, truly demonstrates a new approach or the sealing of a new economic order that, for this order, Europe and the Western Balkan countries are not prepared for,” said Safet Gerrxhaliu, economist.
Therefore, according to Safet Gerrxhaliu, the legal infrastructure and the handling of these changes that are coming must be a priority for the new government of Kosovo.
“After the elections, the priority should be the drafting of legislation in this field because, compared to developed countries, especially the United States, we are far from the reality, and I believe that now, with Trump’s arrival, there is a new momentum, a turning point, where the Central Bank of Kosovo and other banking institutions should invest in acquiring information and education. They should invest in awareness, and definitely, the citizens of Kosovo must be prepared for the Trump era,” said Safet Gerrxhaliu, economist.
According to him, not only Kosovo and the Western Balkans, but also Europe is late in this regard.
Actions need to be taken, say the cryptocurrency community in Kosovo.
“We are far behind. We need to move quickly because the world is moving fast, but the community in this case is ready, they know how it works, they know what to invest in, how to avoid risks, so the state doesn’t need to issue laws to protect the community because we know better than the state,” said Milot Mehmeti, a cryptocurrency expert.
Milot Mehmeti, who has been involved in the world of cryptocurrencies for several years, explains that Kosovo also benefited from the launch of Trump’s cryptocurrency, not excluding the possibility that someone became a millionaire.
“There was investment and impact. It was launched at 3 AM our time, and not everyone had the opportunity to invest at the right time and at a good price, but there were many who invested and benefited from it even though it has now declined. Within 24 hours, 525 new millionaires were made in the world from that coin. Now whether they are in Kosovo, America, or anywhere in the world, they are in the crypto community,” said Milot Mehmeti, a cryptocurrency expert.
Mehmeti says that the changes happening with Trump’s arrival, especially in the economy and the way business is done, were previously requested and supported by this community, but now they seem to be becoming a reality. On the other hand, the Central Bank of Kosovo, in response regarding the cryptocurrency law in Kosovo, confirms that the law came into force on November 22, 2024, but it has not yet taken shape.
