The deadline for submitting candidacies within the Democratic Party (PD) closed at midnight between February 17 and 18, with around 300 candidates expressing interest in competing in the primary race.
In addition to current MPs, other key figures within the Democratic Party have also applied to enter the race.
On Monday, the Commission for the Organization and Oversight of Electoral Operations (KOKOE) held a meeting to review the applications and verify the required documentation, ensuring that all necessary materials were submitted.
Approval Process and Primary Elections
According to PD sources, the party leadership is expected to meet this week to approve the final candidate list and officially open the primary race.
Once the candidates for each district are confirmed, an internal campaign will begin, culminating in primary elections on March 1, where voting will take place in every district.
