On the second day of the meeting in Tirana, the EU-Albania Association Stabilization Parliamentary Committee failed to approve the joint resolution, due to a vote against by the opposition.

The deputies of the Democratic Party opposed this document on the grounds that it did not include the proposals and recommendations that the opposition had made.

“Thank you very much. We have public and voting support for the integration process, but we cannot vote in favor of a resolution that does not reflect any of the opposition’s amendments, which in our view give a real picture of the situation in the country. In this sense, we are forced to vote against, but it does not mean that we do not support the integration process. But the joint resolution, if it will be, had to reflect in that text the concerns of the opposition,” said Bardhi.

Democratic MPs abstained from voting even after the insistence of MEPs, who warned that this could affect the progress of negotiations with the EU.

Meanwhile, the Italian MEP said: “I want to tell my Albanian colleagues that we have had a useful exchange with you and we have seen that there are differences of opinion. If you vote against and the resolution is not passed, it would send a negative message. May I ask you to abstain please? This would indicate that there are distinct differences.”

This vote against was preceded by discussions, and in some moments debates between the representatives of the majority and the opposition, who also at this table showed the completely antagonistic positions they have had in the last months in the Albanian Parliament.

At this table, the democratic deputies also brought complaints about the proceedings of the citizens who protested last night in 6 different points of the country.

“I listened with interest to the representatives of the EP. I would like this call to be for the majority for our amendments. We could have found agreement, but it is given by those who manage power. Our vote comes as a result of the rejection of the opposition amendments by the majority,” said Tabaku.
