The atmosphere of the end of the year holidays in Gjirokastra has also increased the number of local and foreign tourists who visit the cultural monuments in the winter season. The characteristic bazaar and museum buildings in the historic part of the city, decorated with colorful lights are welcoming tourists.
Argjiros Castle is being visited by a higher number of tourists compared to the same period last year.
“Even though the weather is a bit cold, it’s very nice here, there are many beautiful views of the city and the traditional food of Gjirokastr is very tasty” said a tourist.
“Gjirokastra is a beautiful city and I came here because the Christmas atmosphere is wonderful. I will then go to the characteristic Bazaar, which is nicely decorated for Christmas. I hear it’s beautiful there and it will be fun to visit and see a lot of people around.”
“We thought as a family that since every year we have been to different cities in Albania, this year we decided to visit Gjirokastra once, to see what the festive atmosphere is like, and also to visit the castle because we have never been there”

Throughout this year, the Gjirokastra castle has welcomed around 230,000 local and foreign tourists, being the most visited monument in the country.
