Last week of 2023 is also the decisive week for the political fate of Sali Berisha. December 26 and 27 will be two dates that will decide a lot about the political future of the former prime minister and the former president of the country, but together with that they will also decide about the fate of the political force that he has dominated for 32 years wich is the Democratic Party.

On Tuesday morning, the attention will be focused on GJKKO (Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime), which will decide on the request of SPAK (Special structure against corruption and organized crime) to grant or not the measure of house arrest for Sali Berisha. As preparation for this decision of GJKKO, Berisha, on the other hand, has made several moves in the last 5 days. Initially, a reorganization process of the party has started, which will now have to work under these new conditions that Berisha will not be able to leave the apartment. Likewise, contacts with Bardhi’s group have been increased to enable a coordination of the opposition action even beyond the Assembly.

But 24 hours after the decision that will most likely force Sali Berisha to stay at home, the democrats have been called to protest. Rarely, the protest has been announced to take place in front of the high court, where from 9 o’clock in the morning in the consultation room 3 judges will decide on the fate of the seal of the Democratic Party, whether it will remain for Lulzim Basha, or will pass to Sali Berisha.

If the former prime minister and former president will respect the possible measure of house arrest, this protest would go down in history, as the first protest of the Democratic Party without the presence of Berisha on the ground.
