Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is part of the Foreign Affairs Council meeting being held in Brussel this Monday.

Through a Twitter update, Dendias once again drew attention to the arrest of Greek minority oppositional candidate in the Albanian local elections and now elected mayor of the municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, detained by police only two days ahead of the vote, under accusations of vote buying.

Dendias warned that he will discuss the matter with his counterparts in the Council.

“I am attending the European Union Foreign Affairs Council meeting today. The discussion will cover developments in the Western Balkans, during which I will brief my counterparts on the case of the Mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri,” wrote Dendias.

In another update, Dendias announced he met with his Albanian counterpart, Olta Xhaçka, with whom he spoke on the issue.

Fredi Beleri is appearing in front of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime in Tirana, where the arrest issued by him will be validated.

Beleri was arrested by orders of the Court of Vlora, under accusations of vote buying, with the court later declaring incompetency on the matter and sending it to the Special Court for validation.
