Albanian families are receiving more money from their migrating relatives. Only in the first part of the year, the value of remittances was 510 million euros, marking a record for the last two decades.

The money sent by migrants to their relatives in Albania, in the first half of 2024, reached 510 million euros. This amount is 14% higher than last year’s remittances and since 2008, when the Central Bank reports, this year marks a historical record.

The data show that the dependence of Albanian families, especially those in the peripheral and rural areas, remains high, and on the other hand, the expansion of the Albanian diaspora has also had an increasing impact.

After the pandemic, migration hit a new peak, with asylum applications increasing, most to Great Britain.

In addition to departures to traditional countries such as Italy and Greece, this decade citizens from Albania have also received France and Germany, these countries that record an increase in remittances to Albania.

We remind that the average value of remittances every year is about 1 billion euros, which amounts to about 7% of the gross domestic product.
