Dozens have been denied entrance at the Qafe-Thana border as new COVID-19 preventative measures entered to force on Monday.

Citizens entering Albania must present a negative PCR test taken within the last 72 hours, antigen test from the past 48 hours, vaccine certificate, or documentation showing recovery from COVID-19 in the past 6 months.

The measures do not apply to children younger than 6 years old.

On Monday morning, dozens of families were denied entrance. A doctor from Tetovo in North Macedonia described the situation to the media as “abnormal”. According to him, it’s “a crime” to do the rapid test on a minor, a measure that has not been implemented in any other country in the region.

“The tampon in North Macedonia costs €2. Here in Qafa-Thana a private company is selling it for €25. It is shameful what the Albanian state is doing”, the doctor said.
