Skënder Minxhozi, a political analyst, told Euronews Albania that the Democratic Party cannot play by double standards when it comes to its stance in front of the US Department of State.
Minxhozi predicts that DP’s rhetoric in parliament will be challenging, given that on one side it must uphold its pro-American vision and on the other balance out the fact that one of its MPs has taken to court the US Secretary of State.
According to the analyst, it is unsuitable to consider the messages conveyed by the United States once as “stabilizing factors” and then as “pretentious accusations”. The opposition insisted that Tom Doshi, once he was placed on the US black list, withdraw from politics, hence the Democrats should keep the same stance when it comes to one of their own as well.
“The identification of Berisha’s personal interests with the great interests of the entire opposition is the main problem that the Democratic Party has today”, said the political analyst.
Minxhozi said that he had foreseen Berisha’s reaction considering his political profile.
The US Department of State publicly designated former PM Sali Berisha, and his close family members, on May 19 with the argument that it had strong evidence on “serious corruptive affairs that undermine democracy in Albania”.
On Thursday, Berisha announced that his attorney had deposited a defamation lawsuit against the US Secretary of State at the Correctional Court of Paris.
