The Democratic Party has issued an official statement regarding the matter of supporting the candidates for Ombudsman. In its reaction, the DP emphasizes that opposition MPs have withdrawn all previously submitted signatures and have proposed the establishment of a transparent process.

It is further stated that the withdrawal of signatures will be officially submitted to the Parliament. According to the DP, the opposition’s signatures were given before the candidates had been qualified by the Law Commission.

“The signatures of the opposition MPs were given before the qualification of the candidates by the Law Commission, regardless of when the candidates themselves submitted them to Parliament, and some of them used these signatures unlawfully as a proposal for voting (which is not true) in the meaning of Article 9 of the Law on the Ombudsman.

After the decision of the Law Commission—officially communicated to the parliamentary groups—stating that ‘one MP supports only one candidate according to the law,’ opposition MPs withdrew all previously submitted signatures and proposed building a transparent selection process between the majority and the opposition.

We remain awaiting the institutional response of the Speaker of Parliament in order to proceed further. The withdrawal of signatures is being officially deposited in Parliament,” the DP statement reads.
