The legal representative of the Democratic Party at the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Marash Logu publicly denounced earlier today, an event that allegedly took place during the recounting process of the ballot boxes, in the district of Berat.
Giving his version, at the end of the recount process, Logu stated that one of the Observers of the Socialist Party threatened one of the Observers of the Democratic Party with his life.
“An observer from SP, Joana Melëngu has repeatedly threatened the observer of DP during the recount process,” said the legal representative of DP, using the words: “You’ll see when, we get out of here. I’ll cut your tongue.”
Logu emphasized that because of these repeated threats in his address, DP’s observer has withdrawn and has asked for the incident to not be made public because he fears his life. Marash Logu added that this case will be referred to the prosecution office.
According to him, the woman in question is the Director of the Administrative Division no. 2 in the Municipality of Berat, who was also denounced for other violations, during the campaign. Logu continued by saying that this is a flagrant example of what happened widely during the April 25th elections.
“Mrs. Melëngu should have been in prison by now, because she was caught redhandedly passing around packages from the State Reserves, in order to manipulate the votes. Instead, she was made part of the recount process,” declared Logu.
DP’s representative claimed that during the recount process, it was bright and clear that “SP’s observers were all employees of the public administration in the Municipality of Berat”, something which according to him, yet again proves the state’s use of the public administration in function of the electoral campaign of the Socialist Party.
Logu concluded his word by saying that this incident has been denounced by the Democratic Party but the Commission of Appeals and Sanctions (CAS) has refused to inquire and request for more official information backing up this accusation.
