The second semester of 2021 saw a rapid rise in building permits issued compared to the same time span from last year, according to the latest data from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

347 building permits were issued during this time period as contrasted with 209 last year, marking a 66% increase.

Even though the city of Durres issued more building permits than Tirana, the territory in which the latter will be building is five times more square meters than in the coastal city.

In other words, whereas in Durres 77,000 meters square will be used for the 100 building permits issued, in Tirana it is 374,000 meters square, reveal figures from INSTAT.

In total, the area of construction permits approved for new buildings, in the second quarter of 2021, is 544,127 m2, from 322,294 m2 approved in the second quarter of 2020, marking an increase of 68%.

In the second semester of this year, the approximate value of construction permits approved for buildings engineering works is around €189 million, of which €103 in Tirana.

Construction remains one of the main industry sectors of Albania, receiving a particular boost after the reconstruction process triggered by the devastating earthquake that struck the country in 2019.

Albania has received over 1 billion in grants and loans from the EU member states to rebuild the damaged homes from the earthquake.
