Although the company that won the Police Uniforms Tender, according to SPAK, was paid a whopping amount of €24 million euros, employees of the police task force are complaining about the low quality of their uniforms.
Some of the officers at the base rank, have just received their new summer uniforms and are already criticizing the fabric quality of their pants, shirts, identifying vests and even their footwear.
Euronews Albania communicated with several effectives, who anonymously agreed to share their displeasures, at a time when the first official complaints have also arrived at the Police Syndicate Union.
“All the complaints that have been submitted until now, say that the uniforms are at a lower quality than previous ones. The price has become higher, yet the quality has gone down. The first complaints arriving in our office say that the shirts can’t be ironed, even at a 100 degrees’ heat,” said Sadedin Fishta, head of the Police Union.
The head of the union also added that there have been complaints about the quality of shoes and logo stamps, which have a low resistance, after just a couple of washes. There have even been complaints about cuts that are too small or too large, which have forced officers to fix and repair their uniforms at their own expense.
“Before, tenders used to be half as much as the current figure, for the same number of uniforms. The expectation was to at least receive a decent uniform. The cost of uniforms in Bosnia, which have been commended for their quality, is valued at €1200 euros per set, compared to €3600 euros in our country,” said Fishta.
The Special Court issued the following security measures to those involved in the uniforms tender scandal: eight prison arrests and one house arrest, for the public officials working at the Agency of Concentrated Purchases (ABP).
