PM Edi Rama has given another statement regarding the political refugees coming in from Afghanistan in order to flee prosecution from the Taliban.
In an interview for British news agency ‘The Sunday Times’, Rama has stated that Albanians “were once Afghans, 30 years ago”, when they were trying escape the communist regime at the time.
Hel also made the distinction between Albania and other European countries in terms of the way we perceive war.
“Compared to many other European countries, for Albanians, conflict, hunger and emigration are experiences that live within our memories. To us, war has been very real. We have had war at our doorstep. We have seen people being killed and we have had people we know get killed,” said Rama.
According to the US deal, Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia have agreed to accept several thousand Afghans to stay in these transit countries temporarily until their safety can be cleared and they can reach their final destination, the US.
