The high prices, mainly of food products and agricultural products, are weighing on the pockets of residents in Gjirokastra.

Consumers who frequent the fruit and vegetable market complain that the prices of agricultural products have increased.

“We find it difficult to afford these salty prices with our economic income”, say the majority of buyers.

“I don’t know how the prices are, they change daily. We can’t buy them with ridiculous pensions, but it’s good for the pensioner, even giving five lek is not bad,” says a pensioner.

The traders themselves claim that the prices of food products have not undergone a significant increase.

They justify increased prices with high import tariffs for agricultural products that come mainly from abroad.

“The prices are the same, we have neither increased nor decreased them. Well, any product that comes out new has a high price of 100 Lek or 200 Lek more, the tomato was very expensive,” said a seller.

The increase in prices is having a negative impact on the budget of families in Gjirokastria, increasing expenses for daily consumption products.
