The Electoral College has dropped the claims made by the Democratic Party and Socialist Movement for Integration to declare the election result in Vlora as not valid.

After the Commission for Appeals and Sanctions reviewed claims for irregularities during the parliamentary elections, the procedure has now passed on to the Electoral College.

On Monday, the College turned down the request of the Democrats and the Social Movement for Integration, while today it will start reviewing the opposition’s claim on the district of Vlora.

The case passed on the Electoral College after it was dismissed by the Commission for Appeals and Sanctions on May 20, rejecting a request made by the DP and SMI to declare that the polls were not valid.

The opposition also sought to have new voting take place in the district arguing that the government exploited public administrations, as well as state sources and services, in exchange for their vote.

The rapporteur on the case has been appointed judge Esmeralda Xhili.
