High temperatures and the lack of rainfall during the summer season have led to a decrease in water levels in local hydroelectric power plants in Albania. As a result, the production of electrical energy has become more challenging.
In this situation, the Electricity Corporation has expressed the need to purchase electrical energy for the period from September 18 to 24.
In the auction procedure, they have acquired 42,000 megawatts, which have cost 4.1 million euros.
In the international markets, electricity prices have remained stable during this time, and the Albanian Power Corporation (KESH) has been able to secure energy at a rate of 99 euros per megawatt.
Overall, this year has been better compared to the previous year when the hydroelectric power plants did not have sufficient water, and prices increased significantly on the stock exchanges.
This has allowed the Albanian system to require less energy from foreign markets, and the management of the cascade has never been jeopardized by the lack of rainfall.
In June, the water reserves in Fierza were reported to be 296.3 meters, which was 7 meters more than the historical average, surpassing even the maximum recorded for this month in recent years.
