An elevator has collapsed a little after midnight, in a building complex located in one of Tirana’s boroughs known as ‘Astiri’, after which two women were seriously injured and are currently in hospital receiving emergency medical attention.
As it turns out, this elevator unit hadn’t even been registered in the system, hence this also means that it had never undergone inspection.
The notice given out by the State Inspectorate on Market Supervision states that, the “individual responsible for either buying/installing the product hadn’t registered it at the ISHMT”.
ISHMT also notes that the building residents should have chosen an administrator, and it is then his duty to contract an authorized body, which in turn will perform the initial and periodical checkups to the elevator unit, in order to assess whether or not it meets all the technical criteria to guarantee the safety of its users.
The police have also reacted saying that there’s an ongoing investigation to determine the actual cause of the incident and that one of the injured women has recovered after receiving minimal medical attention, whereas the other is still under constant medical supervision.
