Albanian emigrants sent 930 million euros to their relatives in Albania during 2023. This amount of money exceeds the year 2022 by about 100 million euros more, and every other year since 2008, when the Bank of Albania reflects the data.
The significant increase in remittances in Albania has started since the pandemic, but it has been emphasized even more with the price crisis of last year. In total, it turns out that the amount sent last year is 11% higher than in 2022.
Also, the figures show that the last quarter of the year has broken a historical record, with around 252 million euros of shipments, or 4% more than the end of 2022.
Studies show that there are more than 40,000 families who regularly receive money from their relatives, which is also considered as a monthly salary.
With the money sent, last year, emigrants have had enough influence to alleviate the crisis of high prices, for food or other necessary expenses.
Remittances make up 9 to 10% of the Gross Domestic Product, and the main source for Albania is the countries of the European Union.
