The leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha referred to the energy crisis warned by Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday as “another disaster prepared by the government” and blamed corruption for the shortages, not international markets.

In a press conference held after a parliamentary group meeting on Monday, Basha said that the Albanian people are paying the highest prices in the region for energy due to bad governance.

He added that the DP will endorse all forms of civil resistance.

Sources near Euronews Albania say that during today’s parliamentary group meeting, Basha called on Democrat MPs to get into direct touch with citizens in order to “encourage and organize all forms of resistance” against what he called “Edi Rama’s schemes for emptying the pockets of the citizens”.

On Sunday, PM Rama declared that Albania is among the countries affected by an international energetic crisis, which is expected to lead to a surge in the price of fuel and energy from the end of the year and potentially through the upcoming spring.

Regardless, Rama vowed that the government will do everything necessary to minimize the effects of the crisis.

“Have full confidence, as I have unwavering faith, that as we made it with the earthquake and the pandemic, we’ll manage to make it through this other great challenge with the energy, and be sure that just like we didn’t succumb to the infinite rubbles of the earthquake, and we weren’t caught off guard from the attack of the invisible enemy, just like that this crisis won’t find us unprepared nor succumb to this extraordinary crisis”, said the Albanian premier.
