The US envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, reports today to the White House about the discussions he had in Kosovo and Serbia with Albin Kurti and Aleksandar Vucic. This was announced by Escobar himself a few days ago in a communication with journalists.
Escobar has informed his interlocutors in Kosovo and Serbia that Friday is the deadline when he will report to the White House on the process of de-escalation of the situation in the North, and further decisions will follow from this report.
“After this visit, we will be asked by the White House on Friday to give an update on what is happening. And I have to report whether there is any progress or not. Miroslav Lajcak should report to Josep Borrell about the situation. It is not a deadline, but another step for me and based on my report we will make some decisions and move forward”, he declared.
The sanctions that Kosovo may face will depend on the reports of Escobar and Lajcak.
As Euronews has announced, some of the sanctions that Kosovo may face are:
In the first phase, it is foreseen:
Freezing of funds from the EU.
Freezing the visa liberalization process.
Freezing the membership process in the Council of Europe.
Freezing of US funds.
Freezing of programs for the KSF.
Second phase:
Passive attitude towards the Serbian campaign for de-recognition.
Reorganization of the international military presence, serious reduction of the American contingent.
Exclusion of Kosovo from some international organizations.
Diplomatic sources say that if the situation on the ground does not normalize, individual sanctions against Prime Minister Albin Kurti are also foreseen
