Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti spoke to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, with whom he discussed the latest developments in the north of Kosovo.

“Had a call with Josep Borrell regarding current issues, including post-elections in the four municipalities in the north. [I] Emphasized that elected mayors will provide services to all citizens. Important to intensify dialogue for full implementation of the Basic Agreement,” wrote Kurti on Twitter.

EU Representative Borrell also spoke to the Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg about the tensions in the north of Kosovo.

“We agree that Pristina must deescalate and not take unilateral, destabilizing steps. [We] Appreciate the continuous coordination between EULEX Kosovo and NATO/KFOR in ensuring a safe and secure environment,” wrote Borrell on Twitter.

Secretary General Stoltenberg also called on Kosovo’s authorities to deescalate tensions.

“Pristina and Belgrade must engage in the EU-led dialogue now, as the only way to peace and normalization. Pristina must deescalate and not date unilateral, destabilizing steps. NATO/KFOR will continue to ensure a safe and secure environment,” wrote Stoltenberg on Twitter.

NATO has previously asked Kosovo to immediately take measures in calming the situation in the north, with spokesperson Oana Lungescu calling on all parties to solve disputes through dialogue, while ensuring that KFOR will remain vigilant for further developments in the region.
