FULL RESPONSE OF THE EU DELEGATION:
The EU delegation welcomes any initiative to further the processes of Albania’s reform achievements for good governance, the rule of law and anti-corruption, building on previous reforms and achievements, as well as in accordance with the constitutional principle of checks and balances.
We emphasize that it is important to guarantee that this initiative will be developed in full coherence with the findings of the analytical review reports of the legislation (screening process) and with the commitments that Albania has taken as part of the EU membership process, as guides for the rule of law and public administration.
Regarding the justice sector, we note that the main principle should be the irreversibility of the 2016 justice reform.
We emphasize that it is vitally important that the proposed parliamentary process be evidence-based, transparent, and enjoy strong cross-party support and rely on a comprehensive and meaningful consultation with all institutions and stakeholders, including civil society.
Within the process of Albania’s membership in the EU, the EU is meanwhile providing great assistance to Albania in the areas of good governance, rule of law and anti-corruption, and is ready to increase its support, as appropriate.
