The Western Balkans is facing disinformation from Russia, through which Moscow tries to hinder the integration of the region in the European Union.

This is what the spokeswoman of the European Union in Kosovo, Ioanna Lachana, said during an interview for The Geopost platform, writes REL.

According to her, the Kremlin is trying to spread pro-Russian narratives in Kosovo, and negatively present everything that is pro-West.

Something like that, according to her, can increase tensions.

“We have seen propaganda about inter-ethnic tensions, that a new war could break out. This is very dangerous, it can increase tensions. That’s why the European Union has always said that disinformation is an issue that affects security”.

The highest state officials in Kosovo have mentioned several times that Russia’s efforts in the Balkans spread through its “satellite, Serbia”, and that the Russian state tries to take advantage of the tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.

Belgrade constantly denies these positions.
