The Parliament’s decision to impeach President Ilir Meta will be delivered today to the Constitutional Court.
Euronews Albania journalist Eksiola Shehu learned that the decision will be officially sent to the Albanian top court on Monday, which will then decide on the fate of the president.
“The decision of the parliament taken on June 9 is expected to be delivered today to the Constitutional Court, given that there was a 5-day deadline. It will be this institution that will decide whether to interrupt the presidential term or carry out the function until the end of his mandate”, said Shehu.
On the 9 of June, 104 MPs voted in favor of impeaching Albanian President Ilir Meta.
On the other hand, President Meta has refused to accept the parliament’s decision, referring to it in a press conference as “illegitimate”.
