Russia Today (RT) Balkan, a Russian channel that operates and broadcasts from Serbian territory, has been included in the list of entities that the European Union will sanction in the 11th package of sanctions against Russia.

Radio Free Europe has gained access to the decision of the EU, which shows that this channel is included for sanctioning.

According to diplomatic sources, the EU has officially submitted the list of all entities to be added to the sanctions list, and RT Balkan is included there.

Among media outlets to be sanctioned, accused of disseminating Russian propaganda and spreading disinformation, are also the platforms “Oriental Review”, “Tsargrad”, “Kategon”, and “New Western Outlook”.

According to this decision, the sanctions against these media outlets will come into effect on October 1 of this year.

Russia Today for the Balkans, based in Belgrade, began broadcasting in the Serbian language in November 2022, six months after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine started.

The aim of the EU’s latest package of sanctions against Russia is to prevent the circumvention of sanctions through third countries.

Russia Today channel is already under EU sanctions, but some branches of this media outlet outside of Russia and the EU are not.
