The exchange rate of the euro against the lek registered a strong increase on Friday. According to the official exchange rate of the Bank of Albania, euro was exchanged for 106 lek.

The Euro rate has increased by almost one lek in one day, and for the first time since June it is exchanged at 106 lek, as the European currency has fluctuated a lot in recent weeks.

There was also an increase in other major currencies. The American dollar was exchanged on Friday at 98 lek, while the British pound reached the value of 124 lek, the highest level since the end of June.

The fall in the Euro exchange rate has caused negative consequences for the exporting sectors of the economy, but in the same time it has helped to reduce the cost of imports and mitigate foreign inflationary pressures in the economy.

At the end of this week, the Bank of Albania will hold the second currency purchase auction for the month of August. The estimated amount to be purchased in the first round is 5 to 9 million euros.
