The MP of the Freedom Party, Agron Cela, was seen leaving the premises of the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday evening.

Sources for Euronews Albania say that Cela has met with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Elisa Spiropali as well as the political leaders of the Shkodra district, Edona Bilali, Benet Beci, the potential SP candidate for Shkodra municipality and the director of the Albanian Development Fund.

In the meeting that lasted more than 1 hour, it is said that Shkodra’s development strategy was discussed.

Although MP Cela has yet to make an official statement to confirm the news, signals of a rift from the former Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) were apparent much earlier.

The last one was his vote in favor of extending the deadline for vetting bodies on February 10, 2022, joining the votes with the socialist majority, when the MPs of the Socialist Movement for Integration – now the Freedom Party (FP) – followed the approach of the then party chair Monika Kryemadhi, by abstaining from voting.

The transition of MP Agron Cela to the socialists ahead of the local elections on May 14, will not be the only loss for the Freedom Party, as Edmond Ndou, the chairman of the Freedom Party in Shkoder, is also planning a similar move.
