Researcher and historian Niko Kotherja opened an exhibition in Pogradec with documents, photographs and books that reflect the 137th anniversary of education in Pogradec.

The first school in this city dates back to March 14, 1887.

According to the historian, Pogradec has left his mark on the path of education, including that of the girls’ school that was headed by Persofoni Trenin. A good part of the exhibited materials come for the first time.

“The second Albanian school after the one in Korça was opened in the city of Pogradec, which fortunately was documented after an extraordinary research done by Dr. Llazar Gusho a voluminous file that collected materials from the first Albanian school in Pogradec, material that was published by his daughter”, said historian Niko Kotherja.

For the well-known archivist Entela Gusho, all the materials presented in this exhibition should be studied as they are an important part of the history of education not only in Pogradec, but also nationally.

“Today is a special day for Pogradec, for the first time an exhibition of photographs showing the long journey of the school in Pogradec is open to our city. I can say that this exhibition is full of interest, because for the first time they saw original materials, tables that were used by school students”, said Gusho.

In this exhibition, in addition to manuscripts and photographs, there were also books used by Sami Frashëri’s primer and other books used in these 137 years of education in Pogradec.
