The strong fall of the euro in the Albanian foreign exchange market has plunged fashion businesses into crisis. They say that the clothing and footwear sector is losing 9 million euros every month.
The clothing and footwear sector, which makes up about 38% of Albanian exports, is facing difficulties.
For the association Pro-Eksport Albania, which represents 840 local businesses with 75 thousand employees, the losses are about 9 million euros per month, created by the fall of the euro in the foreign exchange market.
Even the measures taken by the institutions to mitigate the crisis that has affected this sector are insufficient and as a result the opportunities to operate in this market are decreasing according to the association.
Fashion businesses have repeatedly sent letters to the government, with concrete proposals, but have not found a solution to develop business with more competitive positions.
The euro has weakened significantly this year against the lek, and even in some of the months of the year, such as July-August or November, it has been exchanged at historically low levels.
